This romantic holiday house »de kleine heremiet« is located in the old fishing village of Moddergat (NL). Less than 100 meters behind the dyke and hidden in a sunny garden, my cottage was built in 1880 and thus is a registered historical site.
The Cottage
You enter through a small hallway into the living/dining area. The bathroom is off the hallway. A staircase leads up to the bedroom with a double bed where you can stargaze. There’s a small desk here too.
The kitchen is equipped with the essentials: a refrigerator, coffee/espresso machine, electric hotplate (2 plates), mini-oven and toaster. There’s a TV and wireless internet, some books and games so when the weather isn’t cooperating you can cozy up on the sofa in front of the gas stove.
The house has been meticulously renovated with high quality natural materials, such as clay and wood, so I ask you to please leave your pets at home and refrain from smoking. Parties are also unwelcome.
The Area
The surrounding area offers many opportunities for nature lovers and people who appreciate tranquility. The ever-changing mud flat, full of birds and diverse scents and sounds is always a fantastic experience. The village organizes mud-walks through the flats. There’s the tiny museum ’t Fiskershúske and the beautiful Lauwersmeer is also close by.
For a day at the beach on the island Schiermonnikoog, the dock is 10 minutes away by car or bus. The bus stop is 50 meters from the house. The ferry ride takes about 40 minutes. The island is free of automobiles but bicycles can be rented at the arrival dock.
The quaint canal-side village of Dokkum is 15 minutes away by car. There are shops and cafes along the canal to enjoy there.
The closest supermarket and restaurant is in Anjum, just 4 km away.
So I hope you will enjoy my little paradise!
